Answer:

More than 90% of the posts I have seen online about how to check WASSCE / WAEC results without using WASSCE result scratch cards do not make sense. The remaining percentage which involves using SMS seemed sensible and applicable but it did not work.

So, the only working way I know to check your WASSCE result without using scratch cards is to wait for your provisional or main WASSCE result to be delivered to your school or centre (hard copy format). You would not pay for this, because the cost is already included in your initial WASSCE registration fees.
There’s another method that involves using SMS but I didn’t find a working way with this method.
