The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released the results of students that wrote the May / June 2015 West African Senior Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Overall performance in Ghana

Reverend Sam Nii Nmai Ollenu, head of Ghana national office of WAEC has disclosed some interesting statistics about the 2015 May / June WASSCE in Ghana.

According to him: 268,812 students sat for the WASSCE in Ghana, which makes it an 11% increase from those that sat for the exam in May /June 2014.

Results of 119 schools have been withheld due to an on-going investigation on malpractice. 453 candidates had their entire results cancelled due to examination malpractice. 1,859 candidates had their subject results cancelled. 8 students have had their results cancelled and have been barred from taking any of the council’s examinations for 2 years.

For Mathematics, 25.29% of students obtained A1-C6 while 29.75% had D7-E8 and 37.17% had F9.

For Integrated Science, 23.63% obtained A1-C6 while 39.19% got D7-E8 and 37.17% had F9.

For English Language, 50.29% of candidates obtained A1-C6 while 30.68% obtained D7-E8 and 19.02% had F9.

For Social Studies, 51.84% obtained A1-C6, 25.20% got D7-E8 whilst 22.94% had F9.

Overall performance in Nigeria

According to Mr. Charles Eguridu, the head of WAEC national office in Nigeria: 1,593,442 candidates sat for the May / June West African Senior Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in Nigeria. 38.68% obtained credits in 5 subjects and above including English Language and Mathematics. The results of 118,101 students are withheld by WAEC.

For those who failed

      I haven’t received any update from my sources on the ranking or performance of students from Liberia, The Gambia or Sierra Leone on the 2015 May / June WASSCE / WAEC exam.

      Also, I’m still yet to see any official updates with respect to this.

      Once again, if I find any, I’d update this piece ASAP. Thanks!

      Hello Richard.
      There haven’t been any official statement from WAEC Sierra Leone, WAEC Liberia and WAEC Gambia on the overall performance of students from these regions.
      Once I find any, I’d update this piece ASAP.
