The Latest Revolution In Higher Education
Some years ago, black boards were known to be the greatest classroom innovation. This “indispensable” innovation enabled the “rapid and vivid communication of knowledge.” It created opportunities for teachers to engage learners in ways that had been unimaginable just a generation earlier.
The same and more will be said of online learning tools. We are at the beginning of a technology-led revolution in teaching: our innovation is not the blackboard, but an evolving suite of tools that allows interactive learning online. One outcome of this revolution has rightly caught the world’s attention — the power to democratise access to education on a scale never seen in history. I’m excited about the promise that these new tools hold for colleges and universities throughout the world.
MOOCs
Online education has brought about things like Massive Open Online Courses(also known as MOOCs). This is where institutions or organisations release educational courses to the public for free. This has given hope to people who don’t have the time, or resources to join a brick and mortar institutions to take any course from the comfort of their homes.
Conclusion
The world will be better for what online learning can offer since nearly 40 percent of the world’s population are connected to the Internet. People once separated from opportunity can now connect to it through education and constantly evolving digital technologies are making the experience of learning through a computer better. I can’t wait to see how better it gets.
